The Catholic Lambertus Church is located in the heart of Ostercappeln, right on the market square.
Ulrike Nüller has been associated with the church for several generations. Her great-grandfather was one of the Haupt brothers who built the organ in a local workshop in 1875. In Vörden and Venne there are other organs made by the Haupt brothers, which are known for their wonderful sound.
Thirty years ago the interior of the church was renovated and masses could not be celebrated. Thereupon the cath. Community use the Evangelical Paulus Church for masses. As a thank you, the cath. parish of the protestant parish an Easter candle and from this a common tradition developed. Pouring the Easter candle together is a fixed ecumenical ritual in Ostercappeln. Wax is collected from all establishments and private, sorted by color and poured into the cemetery on Good Friday. The candles are dug out on Saturday and put into service on Easter Sunday.
Georg Kaiser reports on his altar service as a grown man. He developed his fascination with ministry as a child and served after Communion until he was 18. About ten years ago a group for adult acolytes was formed. He gladly decided to work as an altar boy again. Being in the middle of what is happening at a trade fair fulfills him.
Jannik Dehne presents the youth work of the Lambertus community. The church has over 70 group leaders. A highlight is the tent camp during the summer holidays, where around 150 children from all age groups come together.
Team building, some organizational management methods and a variety of games, as well as joint devotions form the core of youth work. The varied offer of the Lambertus community stands for a lively community life.
