    Previously known as Clogheen, it was deliberately destroyed by fire in 1650 to prevent it being occupied by Cromwell's forces. With the impressive stronghold being only finished in construction in 1641, it was never restored and has remained a ruin ever since. An impressive sight from the road side.

    Completed in 1641, Burncourt Castle is a fortified house first known as Everard's Castle. It had a very short history, being burnt down in 1649 by Lady Catherine Everard as Oliver Cromwell's Roundhead came close, hence the name, 'Burned Court'.
