The best-known cemetery in all of HungaryA particular place comparable to Highgate in London or Pere Lachaise in Paris. Built in 1847. It houses more than 3000 mausoleums and tombs. Famous people are buried here, soldiers of the red army who entered the city in 1944, victims of the 56 revolution. In fact, from 1948 to 1989, the cemetery was mostly closed to the public , both because it was badly damaged during the Second World War, and because historical figures rested inside it, disliked by the communist nomenclature at the time.
