The buildings of the city are in typical Venetian style, as well as there are numerous canals, bridges and arcades that make it look like a Venice of the hinterland. In Portogruaro there are the famous mills on the Lemene, the town hall with the characteristic Gothic lace and the third most leaning bell tower in Italy. The city develops along the banks of the Lemene river, a small spring river. The perimeter moat, which still today surrounds the historic center, is perfectly recognizable.
