On 25.6.1866, shortly before the end of the Prussian-Austrian War, a scattered group of royal Prussian soldiers hid in this quickly excavated entrenchment. The group of 230 men and 27 wagons could no longer reach their destination, the main army near Göttingen, as the Prussians controlled the entire area in between.
When the Prussians finally won the war with the Battle of Langensalza and the Kingdom of Hanover became part of Prussia, the group surrendered on June 28, 1866. The defeat meant the end of the Kingdom of Hanover. The since then carefully preserved entrenchment consists of a circular ditch and a small masonry of field stones.

"Green Hunter" in Darlaten:
