Montrose has a massive sandy beach running north from the South Esk all the way to the North Esk river mouth and St Cyrus. It's a great place to run with the harder sand near the sea being easier but wetter or the soft sand and dunes inland staying dry but much harder underfoot. You can create a loop by heading inland and returning along the lanes or over the playing fields.
