The Enns Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in Austria and connects Ennsdorf (Lower Austria) and Enns (Upper Austria) over the Enns River. The bridge also offers an impressive view of the old town of Enns.

In May 1945, some of the last fighting in Austria took place at the Enns Bridge before Soviet and American soldiers shook hands here.

The Enns Bridge also served as the backdrop for the film “Der Bockerer II” by Franz Antel with Karl Merkatz in the leading role. The film was about problems with escaping across the zone border during the occupation. The most important border post between “East” (Russia) and “West” (USA) was on the B1 at the Enns Bridge. The bridge had gained notoriety in Austria due to arrests and attacks during controls when crossing zones.

Franz Antel therefore moved part of the plot of the film, shot in 1996, to the Enns Bridge. The “Russian hut” and the barriers were rebuilt and the film crew transformed Ennsdorf into a “little Hollywood”. The film, like the first part, became a classic.

A crucifix was once placed in the middle of the old wooden bridges. That's why the steel bridge built in 1932 was equipped with a cross. In 2008, the Jesus sculpture was damaged during construction work. The crucifix has been repaired and renovated and invites you to briefly pray as you pass the bridge. (Photo Country Upper Austria)
