After lying horizontally for 7000 years, the seven bog oaks are now vertical again between Kromme Eem and Grift. The oaks have lived through a significant part of the history of the Kromme Eem, which has flowed here since the end of the last ice age, 11700 years ago. The oldest tree trunks have been dated between 5009 and 4994 BC via growth rings and C14 analyses. An extensive article about the importance of these oaks for tree time science has been published in the magazine of the Historical Society Oud Wageningen.
