    Sajazarra is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain (Pueblos mas Bonitos de Espanya).

    Less than ten streets make up the historic center. The heart of Sajazarra beats on the square in front of the town hall, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

    A little further north is the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción. Construction began with the fortification of the site in the 12th century.

    Behind the church, a gate, the Puerta del Arco, leads through the medieval city walls. There used to be four city gates, but only this one survives.

    From the church square, a few steps west on Calle Mayor take you to the Castillo de Sajazarra. The castle served as a fortress and palace. This dates from the 15th century and was built by the noble family Velasco.
