From 1938 to 1975, limestone was mined on the southern flank of the Arzberg. After its closure, the quarry was designated as a geotope due to its unique rock composition and is now on the list of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria. The quarry is freely accessible at all times, but you should keep your distance from the rock walls and the edges due to the risk of falling rocks.

Hiking

With its 70 meter high quarry walls, the former quarry documents a deposition period of around 5 million years. Hundreds of layers of Malm limestone are piled on top of each other, allowing a detailed look into the development of marine life in the Upper Jurassic.
