The isolated area lies in open countryside along the Unkenbach stream. To the north, there is a quarry where gypsum is mined. To the west lies the Sulzheimer Gipshügel nature reserve. By municipal edict (early 19th century), Unkenmühle, then still called Sulzheimermühl,[5] was assigned to the rural municipality of Sulzheim. Sulzheimermühl was used as a gypsum mill at the time.
