The chapel, which was previously located on the southern edge of the village, was built around the middle of the 14th century. The chapel was destroyed during the War of the Lüneburg Succession in 1377 and was then rebuilt. A letter dated May 25, 1511 to Henry the Middle for donations to build a chapel suggests that construction had already begun. However, this building was only mentioned in documents in 1610. In a fire in 1747, the chapel was destroyed except for the outer walls. Its reconstruction began in 1749.
