Lutheran teaching was introduced in Blankenstein during the tenure of the castle chaplain Wilhelm Steintgen (1527-1540). A few decades later, on August 16, 1607, the Protestant community in Blankenstein received permission from Duke Johann Wilhelm I to break away from the parish of St. George in Hattingen. Today the church is the center of the Evangelical parish of Welper-Blankenstein, which was formed in 2005 through a merger and has around 4,000 members. Today's church building was probably built in 1767, as indicated by the year above the tower entrance. It is located on the bridge between the outer bailey and the main bailey of Blankenstein Castle. The tower itself was built in 1775. An old entrance can still be seen on the south side of the nave. The wooden pulpit altar is from the early Baroque period, the baptismal font from 1689. The church windows are from 1870. The church was last renovated in 1973-1974. Since 2006, the municipality has been collecting funds for renewed repairs. Not far from the church is the Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist on the market square. Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelische_Kirche_Blankenstein

After reconstruction in 1738, the church received its present form. Stones from the collapsing castle are said to have been used in its construction.

Nice corner at the church and there is more to see in the vicinity 👍😊
