In the spring, the barberry bush, which is native to Patagonia, flowers yellow and receives blue, tasty berries in late summer. Around here they say whoever eats these berries will come back. The calafate berries were an important food source for the local Indian tribes. The famous mountaineering town of Califate, to which we are going, takes its name from this shrub.
