country house de Boekhorst. Hidden between the trees in the bocage landscape lies De Boekhorst. Traditionally, De Boekhorst has been a country estate, where the elite from the west holidayed for a few months a year. In 1845, the then neglected country estate came into the hands of Winand Staring. The son of the well-known poet Anthony Staring, who himself lived on De Wildenborch. Winand was a leading geologist. He went down in the history books as a pioneer in the field of agriculture and soil science.

Winand had the dilapidated house demolished and a new house built, which he moved into with his family in 1846. The country estate was a small community consisting of the country house, the coach house, two farms and a dairy with a director's house. In addition to his other activities, he was very involved in the management of the estate.

The name de Boekhorst probably refers to the location. The country estate is located between the beeches (books) on a somewhat higher piece of land (horst). The house is currently privately occupied and cannot be visited. Holiday apartments and a B&B are located in one of the former farms and the coach house.
