The two castles had been owned by the Lords of Freyberg since the 17th century. Their newer form they received after the reconstruction in the 30-year war. In 1809 the von Freyberg sold their Öpfinger property to the princes of Thurn and Taxis. These sold the "Upper Castle" in 1866 to Ludwig Blersch, who ran a brewery in it. Around the year 1912, master brewer Jakob Götz acquired the brewery and ran it until his death. The "Lower Castle" acquired the community in 1934. The rooms served mainly the kindergarten, a nurses' station with nursing, the fire department with construction yard, as a freezer and youth club. Upstairs only apartments were furnished.
