Degerndorf is part of the municipality of Lupburg in the district of Neumarkt. Findings from the Palaeolithic Age (600,000-8,000 BC) document that the location of today's village was a settlement site early on. The reason for this is probably the sheltered location at the bottom of the valley. A natural ford through the Laber might have formed another locational advantage. For the Regensburg bishops, the town was the starting point for the clearing they had initiated, the purpose of which was the internal colonization of the areas north of the town. I
