As early as 1908, a spa building was built on the border with the old town, based on designs by the Leipzig architect Arthur Hänsch. The Kurhaus and a water tower nearby are fine examples of Art Nouveau architecture. To this day, the Art Nouveau Kurhaus attracts guests from Bad Schmiedeberg for information about the spa treatments and events ranging from readings to concerts.
