This tricky trail follows a deep alpine valley beneath the north flank of Mount Rolleston/Kaimatau. It climbs over an old glacial moraine and then follows the contour through subalpine scrub and tussock to the footbridge of the Otira River.
If the weather is nice, this is a good opportunity to see the summer flowers of the Alps.
The path ends at the pedestrian bridge. The hike beyond this point is unmarked and requires knowledge of map reading and route finding.
