This beautiful and new walking bridge over the Kleine Gete is part of the blue and red walking routes that will be completely finished in 2024 in this historically and naturally important area.

Many pieces are already finished and there are temporarily still some pieces via nodes. The walking bridge connects you to a lookout structure on top of a hill (with stairs) full of information boards where you can really read everything about what happened here and is still to happen in terms of waterworks, nature and hiking trails and about the rich history with bloody battles, supplemented with maps that show you all the sights in the area.

Historical detail: three oak tree trunks were chosen for the footbridge. This refers to the temporary tree trunk bridges with which the fleeing soldiers tried to flee during the first battle of Neerwinden on 29 July 1693. After all, the French army of Louis XIV with 80,000 men had broken through the barriers of the "Grand Alliance", after which the bloodiest battle of the 17th century was fought in Wange. Unfortunately, even the temporary log bridges could not handle the soldiers fleeing from the French. Around 20,000 soldiers died, were trampled by the French or drowned in the Kleine Gete. Something to think about when you walk across the bridge?

This mound is a replica of a motte mound, such as one in Wange.
