Stein is a village in the northwestern district of Schwandorf. The village lies in the valley of the Pfreimd River, about four kilometers northeast of the town of Pfreimd on State Road 2157 from Pfreimd to Trausnitz.
Stein Castle on the Pfreimd, also known as Stein Castle, is the ruins of a hilltop castle.
The facility was built on a rocky outcrop above the Pfreimd. Within the castle walls are several buildings, including the former castle; this is a two-storey and plastered gable roof building, the core of which dates back to the 16th century.
