With around 2,100 inhabitants, Stanley is the capital and seat of government of the Falkland Islands. It is located on East Falkland. The city was named after Lord Stanley, the Secretary of State for War and the Colonies of England. Argentina occupied the city during the Falklands Conflict in 1982. She suffered destruction before British troops recaptured her. Stanley was renamed "Puerto Argentino" by the Argentine occupying forces in 1982. This name is still used in Argentina today.
