Small town at the confluence of the Céou and the Dordogne. The picturesque silhouette of the town is dominated by Castelnaud Castle, a medieval fortification from the 13th century. The castle was repeatedly the scene of battles and sieges until it was abandoned during the French Revolution.

In 1966 it was classified as an historic monument and has been carefully restored. Today it is a museum and displays over 200 medieval weapons and armours.

Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (Occitan Castèlnau e la Capèla) is a municipality with 464 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2016). The city is located on the banks of the Dordogne, directly at the confluence of its left tributary Céou. The picturesque silhouette of the village is determined by Castelnaud Castle, a medieval fortification dating from the 13th century. Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
