The castle Bernau, also known as the moated castle Pernau, is located in the municipality Fischlham in the district Wels-Land. The first mention of Pernau concerned a predecessor building from 1189, which was attributed to a Timo de pernowe. The Pernauer were located here until the 15th century. In 1405 Joachim Pernauer sold his seat to Wolfgang Anhanger zu Köppach. In 1449, the brothers Wolfgang and Hans Jörger Pernau inherited the castle from the followers. From the Jörgern bought the Oberhaimer the Ansitz and built him to a moated castle. 1616 belonged to the castle Sigmund Jagenreuter, who sold the castle back to Sigmund Spindler of Hofegg. In 1730 Leopold von Eyselsberg acquired the castle Pernau from Veit Jakob Spindler and had it rebuilt in Baroque style.

An avenue of mountain ash leads to the beautifully restored moated castle of Bernau.

The rectangular moated castle of Bernau dates from the middle of the 16th century and it was not until 1732 that it received its baroque façade. The three-storey building was built on a high base and has four round corner towers. The castle can be reached via a brick bridge. Upon entering, the groined and barrel-vaulted ceilings on the ground floor are immediately noticeable.

The farm building belonging to Schloss Bernau is opposite. It is adorned by a mighty clock gate tower with an open staircase.

Since the moated castle is privately owned, it can only be viewed from the outside.
