The Tungtvannaksjonen (Heavy Water Action) was a successful concerted sabotage action in the spring of 1943 by the Norwegian army and the Allies against research facilities of the German army, which had occupied Norway at the time. The entire action consisted of four individual actions in different locations. The German military research aimed to produce so-called heavy water in Norway and export it (to Germany), which was to serve Germany's nuclear research.
The memorial stone stands on the middle of the three hills on the Fv40 road between Uvdal and Geilo.
