Military fortification, located 4 km from Folgaria at an altitude of 1.613 m s.l.m. at the Coe pass (1,550 m s.l.m.), in the province of Trento. The fort was part of the great system of Austro-Hungarian fortifications on the Italian border.

Forte Sommo Alto was part of the Barramento Folgaria, the fortified line to defend the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was a support fort between the two larger Forte Cherle and Forte Dosso delle Somme, with the main purpose of controlling the nearby Passo Coe and covering the area not reachable by the two older brothers.

Arranged over 3 floors, each with a corridor running the entire length of the building: the ground floor housed the garrison and service rooms; on the first floor there was access to the batteries and the observatory; the tunnels for the forward positions and for the emergency exit in the event of a siege start from the corridor of the basement. Impressive is a long and steep tunnel of 150-200 meters, with the presence of numerous steps, completely in the dark, which descends towards the east and comes out in the wood below: it probably led to an advanced position (?).

Like the other forts, this one suffered the most damage in the interwar period for the salvaging of metal for use in the construction of weapons for World War II.
