Although it is only 47 kilometers from the capital, this Cordovan town feels much further away. Nestled in the Sierra Morena, its orography is partly responsible for its isolation, even the town itself being divided into three nuclei: the historic one, another in Cerro Muriano and another around the station. The historic core, where we are, is very far from the other two.

The non-existence of written sources prior to the Reconquest makes the origin of Obejo difficult to determine. Findings of tombs of uncertain origin have been verified in various sites relatively close to the current population center, which due to their characteristics and according to experts, could be Iberian remains, although Arab coins and, to a lesser extent, Romans have also been found.
