Suso (from the Latin sursum) means "up", and is how this oldest monastery is known. Yuso (from the Latin deorsum) means “below” and is the other name by which the more modern Monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla is known.
Both were declared in 1997 by UNESCO, World Heritage, World Heritage. It is an exciting place, full of history and mystery. The guided tour (€4) includes the bus ride.

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the environment is wonderful. Access in private vehicles is prohibited. To go up you have to take a bus from the Yuso Monastery.
