It is a remnant of the original Atlantic Forest and one of the most researched central parks in the city. In the early 1910s, in the place where MASP is located today, a belvedere was built with a project by architect Ramos de Azevedo, which became known as Trianon. During the 1920s and 1930s, frequented by the São Paulo intelligentsia, the park and the belvedere became a symbol of the wealth of the São Paulo elite and formed a harmoniously integrated set. Among the landscapers responsible for the park project is the Frenchman Paul Villon and the Englishman Barry Parker.
