The small town of Lalibela is home to almost 10,000 people living in the highlands of Ethiopia. Lalibela is well known for the impressive rock churches, some of which extend over several floors and were hewn into the rock - to this day, the rock churches of Lalibela represent a special spiritual place and are still visited by the devout Christians of the place. In addition, Lalibela is considered an important place of pilgrimage for Christians.
