The Theikenmeer is an impressive landscape. It is one of the oldest protected areas in Germany. By rewetting the former high moor, attempts are being made to create a habitat for rare moor dwellers. In the meantime, endangered dragonfly species are buzzing around you again, such as the moss damsel or the darter dragonfly.

The “Theikenmeer” is a 250 hectare area that has been a nature reserve since 1936. It is located on the Hümmlinger pilgrimage route on the 26.7 km long Sögel – Werlte stage. The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 010 includes a raised bog, the Wehmer Dose, with a lake in it. Both are important resting places for migratory water birds. After successful rewetting measures, the raised bog is once again important for animal and plant species typical of raised bogs. Source: Wikipedia

The Theikenmeer is a valuable nature reserve. Many different animals live here and different plants have settled here. The renaturation of the approximately 61 hectare area began in the 1980s.
