The Cavalciotto is a weir located in Santa Lucia which dates back to the 11th century and is a fundamental component of the complex Prato water system, made up of no less than 53 kilometers of millponds which, starting from there, cross the whole territory and then flow into the Ombrone river.
The main function of the Cavalciotto was therefore to (partially) divert the natural course of the Bisenzio to give life to the so-called Gorone, the first and largest gora in Prato.
The Cavalciotto is one of the most important examples of industrial archeology in the Prato area. cittadiprato.it/IT/Sezioni/132/Il-Cavalciotto
