Tips

  • The Bastione San Francesco was built in the 16th century and is the last of the defensive structures designed to protect the city.
The first ring of city walls was built around 929 and surrounded today's Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Cisterna. The second ring of city walls was built by 1214 and is largely identical to today's city walls. After that there were only small extensions.
