The Cyclopean Wall of Krani is an important archaeological site near the village of Razata.
These massive fortifications once protected the ancient city of Krane (or Krani), one of the four city-states of the Kefallinian Tetrapolis (5th to 2nd century BC). The term “cyclopean”
derives from the ancient belief that only the one-eyed giants of mythology, the Cyclopes, would have been able to move such massive stone blocks.
The wall is made of huge, often unworked limestone blocks, which were precisely stacked on top of each other without the use of mortar.
