    Hiking

The Riverdale Farm is a very nice and well-kept farm-like facility, under no circumstances overcrowded, with petting animals and easy to reach by public transport. There is also a kiosk on the edge of the park where you can buy refreshments. The complex is well maintained and with small children it is really a worthwhile destination for a 2 hour trip. There is no playground.
Entry is free, but you can donate if you want to support the farm.
    Worth a visit.

Alternatively, several bus routes also serve the area, making it a straightforward journey from various parts of the city.

Are there specific walking routes or trails recommended for exploring Riverdale Farm?

While Riverdale Farm doesn't feature designated hiking trails in the traditional sense, visitors can enjoy leisurely walks through its 7.5-acre grounds. You can explore various areas including wooded sections, ponds, and paths connecting the animal enclosures and historic buildings. Many visitors find that about two hours is sufficient to comfortably walk through the entire farm and observe its features at a relaxed pace.

Is Riverdale Farm suitable for a winter visit, and are there any specific winter activities?

Yes, Riverdale Farm is open 365 days a year, including winter, offering a unique experience. While the gardens may be dormant, the historic barns provide a cozy setting to observe the animals. The adjacent Riverdale Park West also offers popular tobogganing hills, making it a great spot for families to enjoy during the colder months. It's a peaceful escape from the city bustle, even in winter.

Can I bring my dog to Riverdale Farm?

Riverdale Farm is a working farm with livestock, and as such, it is generally not dog-friendly within the animal enclosures and main farm areas to ensure the safety and well-being of the farm animals. However, the surrounding Riverdale Park West is a popular spot for dog walkers, and you can enjoy walks in the park adjacent to the farm.

What historical buildings can I see at Riverdale Farm, and what is their significance?

Riverdale Farm is home to several historic buildings that add to its charm and tell a story of its past. The Francey Barn, originally built in Markham Township in 1858, was relocated to the farm in 1977 and houses animals. The Residence, built in 1902, served various purposes including a zookeeper's house. You can also find the Donnybrook Ruin and the Island House, remnants from its time as the Riverdale Zoo. These structures offer a glimpse into the farm's rich history.

Are there any cafes or refreshment options available at Riverdale Farm, or nearby?

Yes, there is a kiosk located on the edge of Riverdale Farm where you can purchase refreshments during your visit.
