In the Saint Martin's Church in Tessenderlo, there is one of the last five Gothic rood screens that exist in Belgium. It dates from 1520-1525 and is considered the largest (eleven metres long) and most beautiful in our country. The rood screen or jubee separates the nave and choir and is made of soft limestone from Avesnes. It rests on eight Tournai hardstone pillars. The rood screen is also called the "bible of the common man" because it depicts the life of Christ and the illiterate believers could "see what was said".

The Gothic church (Demer Gothic) itself was built from 1444 to 1484. The Romanesque baptismal font dates from the 12th century. Originally there was also a Romanesque church, built around 1135. There is also a baroque Pieta made of lime wood from the 17th century.

The church is located in the center of Tessenderlo, on the market, which offers a parking lot. Nearby are also the deanery (with seats), the monument for the fallen, and a few other sights. It is also the place with the most catering in the streets surrounding the market square.
