It is a busy seafront promenade bordered by the city limits and to the south by the border with Gibraltar, with the runway of Gibraltar Airport to the east and to the north by Playa de Levante. Nearby are the remains of Fort Santa Barbara, an old fortress that participated in the Great Siege of Gibraltar in 1779. It has all the basic services required of an urban beach, daily garbage collection season, toilets, showers and disabled access, as well as the presence of police and local rescue equipment.
