Islamic religious building located in the city of Kong in the north of Ivory Coast. In 1741 it was noted that the city of Kong already had several mosques including the Great Mosque (Missiriba) destroyed by Samory Touré around 1897 and rebuilt at the dawn of the 20th century.
The neo-Sudanese style Kong mosque is the oldest symbol of the Islamization of the peoples of northern Côte d'Ivoire. It has retained its function as a place of prayer and gathering. Its architecture, which remained intact for a long time due to regular maintenance, nevertheless underwent, in 1978, an unsuitable restoration which somewhat destructured the building.
The building is made using techniques of mud bricks consolidated with strands offering a compact architectural uniqueness adapted to the relatively rainy climate of the region. Great Mosque of Kongfr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosqu%C3%A9e_de_Kong
