Donner Fountain at Neuer Markt
The fountain was commissioned by the City of Vienna between 1737 and 1739 by Georg Raphael Donner (the first public commission of a secular nature to decorate a square in Vienna). For the figures at the edge of the basin – symbolizing the rivers Traun (young man), Enns (old man), March, and Ybbs (female figures) – Donner created only the models; the execution was the responsibility of Johann Nikolaus Moll. In the center of the basin is the figure of Providentia (Providence), with four putti at the base.
