Founded as a royal hospital by James I in 1244, rebuilt centuries later, it is one of the most beautiful and interesting monuments in Xàtiva. In addition to its formal beauty, it is interesting for the curious fusion of late Gothic architecture with the first Renaissance attempts, being the building that best summarizes the situation of Valencian architecture in the central years of the 16th century. For more than five centuries it has taken care of the health of the Xativins.
