The medieval church was no longer fit for purpose in the 18th century; it was considered too small and dilapidated. Nevertheless, only makeshift maintenance was carried out. After the church was destroyed to its foundations in a fire in July 1807, it took a long time until a new building was built. The design of today's church comes from consistory master builder Ludwig Hellner. The inauguration was on December 4, 1842.Source and further information about the church:
