On August 2, 1944, chaos reigned in Sanok. The city was stray. Two days earlier, German troops had withdrawn from it, Soviet soldiers had not yet entered. People searched abandoned buildings in search of food and various goods. Among others, closed since the September campaign, rubber plants, where there were stores of very sought-after kerosene. At one point there was a powerful explosion. About 70 people died as a result of the explosion and fire.
