Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
It's fun and in a good mood to watch the funny looking white alpacas with their friendly faces.
"Vicuna pacos" belongs to the camel family and is a subspecies of the Vicuna that was domesticated in the Andes of South America. There are two breeds: the powerful Huacaya, which produces an extremely warm fiber, and the slimmer-looking Suri with a silky fleece. Unlike the related llamas, they were traditionally not used as pack animals, but were bred exclusively for the extraction of the fibers.Alpacas are so robust that they can adapt well to different climatic conditions. However, they have so far rarely been held in Europe. Even though the processing of alpaca fiber is only just beginning here, breeding clearly aims to produce a finer, structured fiber that results in particularly high-quality wool in the further processing.Due to their calm and peaceful character, alpacas are also used in animal-assisted therapy in Germany. The gentle animals have an amazing effect on people with a wide variety of diagnoses, including autism.
