    The Lady of the Marassies

Marasia is the birthplace of the Maraslis family and of the National Benefactor Grigorios Maraslis (1780-1851). The main street of the village ends at the house where Vasiliki Lampidou – Fotaki, also known as the "Lady of Marasia" lived for the last 50 years of her life.

She was the woman who every morning raised the Greek flag outside her house, a few meters from the Greek-Turkish border, and took care of the soldiers of the nearby outpost like her own children. In 2007, the Academy of Athens honored Mrs. Vasiliki, who died five years later at the age of 107. Her bust next to her small house reminds everyone of the selfless offering and love of another "Lady of Rho" in the northern end of our country this time.
