On the way to Neuschwanstein Castle there are a few viewpoints from which you have a wonderful view of the valley.

I think Hohenschwangau doesn't need to hide behind Neuschwanstein.

A visit to Neuschwanstein Castle is very nice, I highly recommend it. The castle can be reached on foot, by carriage or by bus

If you visit the castle Neuschwanstein, you should also go to the beautiful Alpsee and enjoy the beautiful nature.

The Alpsee (about 62m deep) near Hohenschwangau impresses with its blue clear water. In addition to an outdoor pool and the resident boat rental, the lake offers a light Alpine circular walk with a length of about 6km! The hiking trail is "not suitable for wheelchairs, strollers or bicycles"! It always goes back over rough stones, big roots and small bridges with grid floor, mountain up and down! The view is breathtaking and you get a glimpse of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwanstein here and there!

The Ahornreitweg is the counterpart to the Schutzengelweg. He is about 14km with an up / down of good 911Hm. The nature tour leads first on an alpine path with valley view in the middle of the mountains. Later, the path turns into gentler paths and passes the restaurant "Bleckenau". If you like, you can take the bus back to the Tegelbahn via Hohenschwangau. Or the route to walk. If you decide to walk, you will pass the mountain river and the Marinbrücke near Neuschwanstein.

The hiking trail with the longer walking time is very easy to walk but still not overpopulated by tourists.

Even if Hohenschwangau is overflowing with tourists, you don't have to go that far to find peace and quiet and enjoy the wonderful mountain world!
