From here you can start a hike into the Grand Canyon on the Hermit Trail which intersects with the Boucher Trail or finally leads to the Tonto Trail and the mighty Colorado River after many miles and loss of elevation. If you don’t want to hike that far, you can turn around at Santa Maria Spring which is a nice place with shade, benches and water. For overnight adventures, you need to obtain a backcountry permit from recreation.gov.

At this trailhead there are restrooms, drinking fountains and a gift shop that also sells maps of the area.
