„Brutt lenke“ is an impressive monument to the 123 people who lost their lives in the „Alexander Kielland“ disaster in 1980. The monument is spectacularly located by the sea at Smiodden in Kvernevik, with a view of the North Sea.
The sculpture, designed like a broken chain link, is by artist Johannes Bloch Hellum and was unveiled in 1986. It is made of copper, weighs around five tons, and is six meters long. Directly below the monument, you will find the memorial plaques with the names of all the deceased.
