The rocking mill Schoterveense Molen, probably built around 1600, stands on the former Schoterveenpolder. Originally, it drained the approximately 205-hectare Schoterveenpolder over a long forebay on the Noorder Spaarne. The relatively high dune area that would later form the Schoterveenpolder had a natural drainage through the Spaarne for a long time. The final introduction of wind drainage must have taken place around the middle of the 17th century, which is also indicated by the construction of the mill.

It has been owned by the municipality of Haarlem since 1922, before that it was the Schoterveenpolder. The mill is still capable of grinding. Repairs have been made to the mill over the years. The last repair took place in 2021. However, since the polder has become too small, the mill has no further function. As of 2020, the mill was still in use. The mill and the associated house are under monument protection.
