The castle in Ivenack ten kilometers east of the Reuterstadt Stavenhagen in the Mecklenburg Lake District district goes back to a former Cistercian convent from the 13th century, which was secularized in the course of the Reformation and became a ducal Mecklenburg office. The Renaissance castle of Duke Sigismund August zu Mecklenburg was built on the walls of the monastery at the end of the 16th century. Through an exchange of goods, Ivenack came into the possession of the privy councilor Ernst Christoph von Koppelow in 1709. His widow married Count Helmold von Plessen in 1740. In 1743 the castle was extensively rebuilt again and richly furnished in the rococo style inside. In 1798 the house was given its present form with the extension of the wing structures. Before that, probably in the second half of the 18th century, the stables, the orangery and the tea house were built. The park was also a baroque garden in its beginnings, which was converted into an English landscape park in the 19th century.

Ivenack Castle is classified as a national cultural monument and receives access to federal funds for the restoration of cultural monuments of national importance.

The current status of the renovation can be followed on the website schlossivenack.de.

The construction site is not open to the public. Special tours for groups are available through the project manager: Manfred Achtenhagen info@gutsdorf.de or on 0172 9569607.

      History
The older, middle part of the castle dates back to the 16th century - the monastery building. A first extension took place in 1709 and after passing to the Imperial Counts von Plessen around 1750. The semicircular stables, the orangery, the tea house and the church also date from this period. Around 1810, the castle was extended by two more wings. Since 2016, it has been renovated in accordance with monument protection regulations. The 1000-year-old Ivenacker oaks in the former zoo are Germany's first national natural monument.

The castle is currently being renovated by the new owner Lars Fogh, a Danish businessman.

Ivenack Castle is a manor house that was built in the 18th century and acquired its current form through extensions in the 19th century. The building is a two-storey, three-wing plastered structure with a mansard and hipped roof.

In 2012, the building and the associated park were purchased by a Danish businessman. In 2019, work began on renovating the roof.

The castle and former Cistercian monastery have been renovated for years. Obviously, a hotel is to be built here in the immediate vicinity of Lake Ivenacker.

Built at the end of the 16th century, today more of a ruin, it is to be restored.
