The atonement cross on the left at the entrance to the Herrgottskirche is the Erdbacher atonement cross.
Until 1962, the location was a few hundred meters southwest of Erdbach on a dirt road where the boundaries of Erdbach, Feudenbach and Reinsbronn meet. Still visible in the 1955 map.
The cross probably had to go when the road was being built.
Nobody wants crosses like that, you don't know anything about them and they just get in your way!
Then the glorious idea came up: let's put the thing by the Lord's Church, there's other useless stuff lying around. Thought done!

Two brothers from Craintal are said to have been cutting out thistles at the original location. During their snack they got into an argument because one had a sandwich and the other had only a loaf of bread and salt.
They injured themselves so badly with their Schnittheppe (tool for cutting out thistles) that one died on the spot, the other on the way home on the Craintal-Freudenbach road, at the “Schnittheppe” cross (shrine).
The cross is said to date from the 14th - 16th centuries.
